The hard piece in this combination is to have 1.) a fast gyaku zuki and 2.) a gyaku zuki that is in good form. Assume for this example your starting with left leg forward and kicking with the right leg. I would suggest a lower tight mawashi geri. Make sure that you lower your height before moving forward into the gyaku zuki. This will help counteract the tendency to fall into the technique.
ReplyDeleteLast it is helpful to think about stepping into the gyaku zuki. After lowering yourself step with your right foot forward but, keep all of your weight over your supporting leg. Now you are in a perfect position to rotate the left hip from way back in left field and kimae into a good punch.
If you kick with a long or open pelvis kick it will take much longer to recover and step into the next technique. Same goes if you put a ton of rotation into the kick you will have to counteract that momentum to even start the punch.
