Mawashi geri / oi zuki

  1. 1.) Hands - Pulling hand during oi zuki needs to actually have room to retract. The tendency is during the kick to have the pulling hand tight against the ribs leaving you no energy to pull pack to. If kicking with the right leg in mawashi geri the left hand needs to be kept forward in a defensive posture so that it has room to pull back in oi zuki.

2.) Kick - see also post on mawashi geri for further details. This technique should use the same windup as mae geri. This will allow your intertia to be 100% in the direction of your opponent without the rotation that a normal mawashi geri causes. This is important as your are punching the oi zuki with the same hand as the kick and that is very difficult to have a fast set of techniques while counter acting the rotation of the kick.

3.) Kick part 2 - when snapping back the mawashi geri keep the knee exactly in place it was during kimae and snap and rotate the knee through foot back to vertical plane.

4.) Balance - Same as mae gei / oi zuki. Your center of gravity should be forward of your hips causing a 100% commit in the direction of opponent. This speeds up the set of techniques as you are not trying to pull back the inertia of the kick to remain in balance.
